Explanatory Notes

Classroom teachers are the key educators of all students and for those students who have special education needs.  They have a responsibility to help all students learn, and they work collaboratively with special education teachers, and others where appropriate, to achieve this goal.  Effective instruction begins with an understanding of students’ learning strengths and motivational needs, both collectively as a classroom unit and as individual students.   Education For All: The Expert Panel Report on Literacy and Numeracy Instruction for Students with Special Education Needs, Kindergarten to Gr. 6 (2005) describes this key step as “knowing your students.”  This theme is explored further and is key to the implementation of the Learning for All K-12 resource document scheduled for release late spring 2009.

Below are a sequential series of four slide decks that build towards the implementation of the Learning for All K-12 resource document and can be used as resources to support school board professional learning.  These slide decks have been made  available to your school boards in PowerPoint format in order for you to use them wither in their entirety, in any order, or ‘cut and paste” to meet the needs of your audience(s).  All of the slide decks contain speaker notes and suggestions for using the information.

We appreciate all feedback and encourage you to review and respond to the questions that are included at the bottom of this page.
